The Dream of Scarlet Avenue

The Ang brothers -- Amos and Adam, who perform under the stage name "Scarlet Avenue", dream of writing more songs and sharing their music with people -- the more, the merrier.

This has been their childhood dream and they are giving as best a shot as they could to build and live their dream. As extracted from the lyrics of their "Paper Plane", "I've got one heart, I'll not waste it away. I've got one life, I'm not throwing it away. Gotta know that I never plan to ever land."

Please feel free to check out their online home at http://www.scarletavenuemusic.com/ to plug-in to their music journey.

As Scarlet Avenue seizes their day, Daily Refreshing wishes them a long paper plane ride that will hit the the Malcom Gladwell's 10,000-Hour Rule on the sweet spot of world class proficiency and be transformed into a fuel-powered airplane for an enduring ride.

For now, let's enjoy Scarlet Avenue's "Paper Plane" and "Lighthouse":-

Open Doors

The following selected quotes are for your rumination on finding open doors.

"There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception." -- Aldous Huxley

"If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite." -- William Blake

"It is literature which for me opened the mysterious and decisive doors of imagination and understanding. To see the way others see. To think the way others think. And above all, to feel." -- Salman Rushdie

"All doors open to courtesy." -- Thomas Fuller

"Good manners will open doors that the best education cannot." -- Clarence Thomas

"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." -- Walt Disney

"If you go to work on your goals, your goals will go to work on you. If you go to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you. Whatever good things we build end up building us." -- Jim Rohn

AnyLock - Keeps Food Fresh

Innovation need not be super high technology. I think one of the simple but breakthrough idea was the introduction of the Post-it Notes.

According to Wikipedia: "A Post-it note (or sticky note) is a small piece of paper with a re-adherable strip of glue on its back, made for temporarily attaching notes to documents and other surfaces. A unique low-tack pressure-sensitive adhesive allows the notes to be easily attached, removed, and even re-posted elsewhere without leaving residue. Originally small yellow squares, Post-it notes and related products are now available in a wide range of colors, shapes, and sizes.

Though 3M's patent ran out in 1997, the term "Post-it" is not genericized.[citation needed] It and the original notes' distinctive yellow color remain registered company trademarks, with terms such as "repositionable notes" used for similar offerings manufactured by competitors."

Well, of late, we have AnyLock which is a portable plastic strip which can be used to 'zip-up' plastic packaging of snacks or foodstuffs. The simple but innovative idea is to fold the opened end of the packaging and then slide it under a plastic guide within the casing of AnyLock.

Before the advent of AnyLock, people have resorted to using rubber bands or clips to hold in the opened end of their packaging. On the surface, AnyLock does seem to provide a better sealing to keep the contents fresh. But, you never know till you try it out for yourself.

A Little Bird Told Me

When we know of a matter but do not wish to disclose the source, we would resort to saying, 'A little bird told me.' It is not just a rumor that we are hearing, but something which we have heard from what we would deem to be a reliable source.

And, what is the truth of the matter concerning this little bird of a spy drone from times past? I think we can pin-it to what is found the the Book of Ecclesiastes of the Holy Bible as follows:-

"Do not curse the king, even in your thought; Do not curse the rich, even in your bedroom; For a bird of the air may carry your voice, And a bird in flight may tell the matter." -- Ecclesiastes 10:20 (NKJV)

Many Bible scholars believe that it was King Solomon who wrote the book of Ecclesiastes by the inspiration of the Spirit of God. As a king, Solomon is well disposed to the issues of life faced by rulers and wealthy people.

While birds would not be able to divulge secrets, not even carrier pigeons, the reference to 'a bird' is a convenient and self-explanatory metaphor for a spy or an insider.

Take Action - Highlights of University of Wisconsin Commencement Speech by Bradley Whitford

I was just looking through my notebook and stumbled afresh upon this collection of life nuggets by Bradley Whitford.

Read, reflect, enjoy, and, most importantly, take action!

" "Our worst fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world." -- Nelson Mandela

1. Fall in love with the process and the results will follow. For example, you've got to want to write more than you want to be a writer.

2. Do your work. Find joy in the process of preparation.

3. Listen to the whispers inside you. We have a lot of problems in this world and we're going to need you to think outside the box.

4. You are capable of more than you think. Don't limit yourselves.

5. Listen. Listening isn't passive. It is an act of liberation that will connect you to the world with compassion and be your best guide as you navigate the choppy waters of love, work and citizenship.

6. Take action. Action is the antidote to apathy and cynicism and despair. You will inevitably make mistakes. Learn what you can and move on. At the end of your days, you will be judged by your gallop, not by your stumble.

Come as you are, armed with nothing more than the tools of a mediocre television actor. All we need is for you to find joy in your journey, to find satisfaction in hard work, to be aware of what is happiness around you, to free yourself from your imagined limitations, to listen, and finally, to act -- not to play make-believe.

I want you to be an actor in your own life. Infuse your life with action. Don't wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honour your Creator, not by passively waiting for your grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen -- yourself right now, right down here on Earth."
