The Healthy Kazakhstan train is no ordinary train. Since 2011, it has delivered medical care to the country’s most remote regions. This episode tracks a team of 27 specialists and 20 support staff at the tail end of their eight-month journey. Fully equipped with modern facilities like X-ray and ECG machines and specialists in various fields like cardiology, dental services and dermatology, the train is often the only healthcare provider that isolated villages can access.
In the documentary, emergency situations occur when two patients come in, one who has suffered a stroke and the other, acute coronary syndrome. Led by chief medical officer onboard, Dr. Ainur Yeginbayeva, the train serves up to 100,000 patients by the end of their rail journey.
