3 Lorong Lew Lian - Yong Tau Foo and more

This is a shout-out to 3 Lorong Lew Lian for their amazing serving of yong tau foo (YTF).

It has been said, "Food that looks good tastes good". Well, the wide and neat selection of pickings from this store located at its namesake (Block 3 of Lorong Lew Lian, Singapore) certainly deserves a second look as they come fresh and in relatively large-sized portion. Yes, the YTF tasted as good as they look in my maiden culinary exploit here.

Also, for those with an acquired taste for Hakka-style meat stuffing instead of the usual fish paste filling, this stall would certainly draw you back for more.

Aside from YTF, this stall also offer chee cheong fun, old school bak chor mee soup, braised pork rice and Tom Yum claypot noodles. You might just wanna try and eat them all by making return visits.

"Merci" (Thank you)

Wander with the Wonder of Poems

Here are some AI-generated extract and commentary of poems with uplifting and surprising moments, filled with the beauty of nature, wonder, and love:

Photo by frank mckenna on Unsplash

1. "A Night in June" by Emily Dickinson

“A Night in June” has the gentle surprise of nature’s serenity, showing how the night sky and moon can bring unexpected joy:

“The moon is distant from the sea,
And yet with intimate surprise,
The waves will lip—at her command,
And fill her with the fullest rise.”

In this poem, nature is described as having a gentle, quiet power that both surprises and uplifts.

2. "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" by William Wordsworth

This poem brings a surprising and uplifting encounter with nature, as the speaker finds beauty and peace in a field of daffodils:

“For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.”

Wordsworth's revelation is that nature’s beauty brings eternal joy and peace, even when far removed from the moment.

3. "The Sun" by Mary Oliver

This poem beautifully conveys a sudden understanding and connection with the sun’s energy and life-giving power:

“I wanted to be the knife that cuts the pomegranate
and turns it into wine,
I wanted to be the day turned into a leaf
whose dust gathers in the house
and makes me glad for what I know,
for the way the sun shines on everything,
for the way it lets me go.”

In these lines, Mary Oliver evokes an uplifting, intimate connection with nature, bringing the seemingly ordinary into a space of wonder.

4. "Sonnet 18" by William Shakespeare

Shakespeare's famous sonnet brings the eternal beauty of a loved one into a radiant revelation of love’s timeless nature:

“But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st.”

The revelation is that love and beauty, immortalized through poetry, will always shine brighter than death or decay.

5. "Hope is the thing with feathers" by Emily Dickinson

This poem gives an uplifting and surprising encounter with the resilience of hope, describing it as a bird that stays with you in all conditions:

“Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all.”

In the face of life's difficulties, hope provides an unexpected but unwavering source of light.

6. "The Peace of Wild Things" by Wendell Berry

A beautiful moment of revelation where nature offers peace and solace from the worries of the world:

“When despair for the world grows in me
And I wake in the night at the least sound
In fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
Rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.”

Berry’s encounter with the peaceful beauty of nature offers a calming, uplifting contrast to human troubles.

7. "To the Moon" by Percy Bysshe Shelley

This poem presents a surprising and uplifting encounter with the moon, as the speaker finds solace in its eternal presence:

“Art thou pale for weariness
Of climbing heaven and gazing on the earth,
Wandering companionless
Among the flowers and the flowers and the herbs of the earth,
Where thou dost wander at the evening's close
Till the stars rise in the night’s repose?”

Shelley’s encounter with the moon conveys its quiet, eternal beauty and the sense of peace it brings amidst life’s struggles.

8. "The Lake Isle of Innisfree" by W.B. Yeats

This poem captures a sudden, peaceful revelation as the speaker yearns for a retreat to the tranquil beauty of nature, especially the lake Isle of Innisfree:

“I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.”

Yeats’s poem is an uplifting vision of escaping to nature to find serenity and peace in the simple beauty of the world. The “bee-loud glade” presents an unexpected yet vibrant and joyful image.

These poems bring forward an uplifting encounter with beauty, nature, love, and hope, offering readers surprising revelations that inspire a sense of peace and wonder.

Wait, there is more! ChatGPT generated these originals for us:

1. "Whispers of Dawn" by ChatGPT

As night’s embrace fades soft and slow,
The stars retreat, the moon aglow,
Yet in the quiet of the morn,
A golden light is softly born.

The breeze, it carries whispered song,
Of days that come and nights that long,
And as the sun begins to rise,
It paints the sky with sweet surprise.

In every beam, a promise made—
That joy is born in light and shade,
A tender hope that fills the air,
As dawn unfolds her beauty there.

2. "A Moment in the Forest" by ChatGPT

Beneath the boughs of ancient trees,
The forest hums in gentle breeze.
With every step, the earth does sigh,
As nature breathes, and hearts fly high.

The leaves, they shimmer with delight,
Caught in the glow of fading light.
And in the hush, a voice unknown,
Whispers of peace in quiet tone.

The world feels wide and soft, and free,
A wondrous place for hearts to be,
Where time stands still, and all is bright—
A gift of love in nature’s light.

3. "The Heart's Horizon" by ChatGPT

Far beyond where eyes can see,
Lies a place where hearts are free.
A land where every dream takes flight,
And every star is born of light.

The sun that sets, the moon that rise,
Are mirrors of our deepest skies—
Each glance a world, each touch a song,
Where love will dance the whole night long.

So if your heart feels lost and torn,
Look to the skies where dreams are born.
For every dawn, the world is new,
And joy is waiting there for you.

4. "Morning's Quiet Grace" by ChatGPT

Golden light spills soft,
Whispers of the earth awake,
Peace in every breath.

What is Prosperity?

Prosperity, as defined by Webster dictionary, is "the condition of being successful or thriving".

The following expanded definition by Remington Donovan in his book "Prosperity Practices" is for your refreshing:

"Prosperity is different for everybody. It could be money, time, love, health ... the possibilities are endless.

Some people want more time to enjoy their life. Some people want more money. Some people want more time and more money. Some people want more love. Prosperity for one person might be a beautiful studio apartment in the city of their dreams. For someone else, it might be a mansion in the countryside, a sailing boat, being able to go on mountain hikes or spending time with family anf friends. my intention with this book is to share techniques and practices to help you reach your goals, whatever they may be.

Prosperity, on some level, is a mindset. It's not limited to the things that we have or our material possessions (although these are an important part of prosperity). It relates to the whole of our lives, to our whole spiritual being.

My personal prosperity journey is one of transformation, from despair, depravity, barely surviving, to living generously. I was so poor that I literally had to scrape together change from the deep recesses of my couch just to take a bus, hoping that when I got to my destination I would be able to get a ride home after the event. I know what's it's like to be flat broke and depressed. I felt like I'd never meet anybody, that I'd always be single and didn't deserve the kind of love I longed for. I freakin' get it.

Out of those gnarly negative experiences, I've created a wonderful life. I managed to transform all that desperation into a very successful six-figure income that is growing every year. I married my soul mate and life partner. We have a beautiful baby boy. I've created a living and a business based in things that I love the most. I've  been able to turn my work, which is who I am, into an entirely self-supporting operation. I work for myself. I work with my partner. We live in a crazy-cool house. I seriously never imagined being abkle to call home. We even own a real full-size caboose. I have a car, for which I am grateful. I have learned the value of money. I have learned the value of time. I have learned the value of gratitude and I have definitely learned the value of love. I feel I have more love, money and time than I ever imagined was possible. yet I'm still growing, improving and harnessing more prosperity.

There is no quick fix. There is no cure-all. Everything I'm sharing in this book is what I have applied to my own life that has absolutely worked for me, and I have seen work for others.

My personal story started with needing more love and acceptance. I had to work on creating prosperity daily. The emotional, internal shift eventually led to financial upgrades, which led to greater opportunities. Prosperity adds more prosperity. I cherish now having time to enjoy my life.

When calling in prosperity. I encourage you to look at all the different parts of your life. What are your career goals? What do you seek professionally? Do you need more time? Or love? Or money? Don't compare yourself to other people; just focus on what would make a difference to you now. Where would you like to grow, and what does the life that you want look and feel like? This is personal to you. What do you love to do? Can you imagine yourself making money doing that?

When reading and applying these practices to your life, be open to something bigger and better than you have been imagining. Trust the miracles that come your way. Embrace the beautiful, and sometimes scary, moments of transformation. When you are open to prosperity, you become more prosperous. you were already born a success. It's time to reclaim it."

The Alchemist -- A Fable About Following Your Dream

If you have a dream in your heart, "The Alchemist" written by Paulo Coelho would be a good read to fuel the quest of attaining your dream.

ISBN 978-0-06-235530-0

According to the blurb on the back cover of this 25th Anniversary Edition:-

"Combining magic, mysticism, wisdom and wonder, The Alchemist has become a modern classic, selling millions of copies around the world and transforming the lives of countless readers across generations.

Paulo Coelho's masterpiece tells the mystical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure. His quest will lead him to riches far different -- and far more satisfying -- than he ever imagined.

Santiago's journey teaches us about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, of recognizing opportunity and learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and most importantly, to follow our dreams."

Here are some highlights to refresh you:

page 81:- "That's the principle that governs all things," he said. "In alchemy, it's called the Soul of the World. When you want something with all your heart, that's when you are closest to the Soul of the World. It's always a positive force."

page 136:- "What you need to realize is this: before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way. It does this not because it is evil, but so that we can, in addition to realizing our dreams, master the lessons we've learned as we've moved toward that dream. That's the point at which most people give up. It's the point at which, as we say in the language of the desert, one 'dies of thirst just when the palm trees have appeared on the horizon.'

page 137:- "Every search begins with beginner's luck. And every search ends with the victor's being severely tested." The boy remembered an old proverb from his country. It said that the darkest hour of the night came just before the dawn.

page 140:- The boy watched the exchange with fascination. "You dominated those horsemen with the way you looked at them," he said. "Your eyes show the strength of your soul," answered the alchemist.

page 141:- "You already know about alchemy. It is about penetrating the Soul of the World, and discovering the treasure that has been reserved for you."

page 144:-"What is an alchemist?" he asked, finally. "It's a man who understands nature and the world."

page 157:- The boy reached through to the Soul of the World, and saw that it was a part of the Soul of God. And he saw that the Soul of God was his own soul. And that he, a boy, can perform miracles.

page 163:- The alchemist said, "No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world. And normally he doesn't know it.

Some takeaways from this bestseller are as follows:

* Be observant of the omens happening before your eyes. For example, notice the flight patterns of hawks in the sky and understand what it is alluding to.

* Trust what is in your heart and get further clarity on what is in your heart.

* Discover and develop your gift, and put them to good use as your journey towards your dream goal.

* Stay on course and never give up on your dream no matter how far-fetched it may be. Each day forward brings you closer to finding your treasure.

Catch the Little Foxes That Spoil The Vines

"Catch us the foxes,
The little foxes that spoil the vines,
For our vines have tender grapes." -- Song of Solomon 2:15 (NKJV)

Photo by Cindie Hansen on Unsplash

The vines supply the nutrients to the branches which bear grapes -- the fruit of your labour. Foxes are foxes regardless of whether they are big or little, and they will harm your harvest of fruitful labour if you do not pay attention and get rid of them.

Metaphorically, you need to watch out for the 'little foxes' which could mess up your life and the following threesome are highlighted:

1. Paper

While on the drive to go paperless, there would still be that letter or printout which end up on your desk. The golden rule is to handle each piece of paper once. Read it with comprehension and then decide on how to deal with it once and for all: Action and file it (or scan and file a softcopy); Pass it to another person for further handling; or Thrash it.

If you are unable to get your hand around this paper intrusion, you will be bogged down by a growing pile of papers, and end up having to re-visit them and expend further time and efforts to deal with them.

2. Credit Card Debt

If you find yourself unable to pay off your monthly credit card debt in full, it is time to take drastic action before the situation gets out of hand as the interest expenses on overdue payments snowball.

Cut down on your discretionary spending immediately and curb the urge to splurge now before you have earned sufficient income to afford it. It is going to hurt your lifestyle; no pain now, more debts later on. Choose wisely.

3. Offenses

When you play a contact sports such as rugby and soccer, you would be accustomed to rough play and the occasional dirty tactics of your opponents. You will be offended and if justice is not accorded by the referee, you would be aggrieved and may seek to retaliate when an opportunity present itself. This makes you no better than the offender, and you will reap what you sow, similarly.

Offenses could manifest in other ways such as gossip, backstabbing, ghosting and unkind remarks. Wherever possible, take the path less travelled and choose the F-word (Forgive) for offenses, especially, when non-criminal in nature.

For all criminal matters, it would be advisable to report the matter to the authorities for them to deal with according to the law. But, you could still come to terms with forgiveness while the offender is adjudged to be punished.

As gleaned from Google AI, "Holding onto unforgiveness can significantly impact your health, both mentally and physically, by causing chronic stress, increased anxiety and depression, weakened immune system function, elevated blood pressure, and potentially contributing to issues like heart disease due to the constant state of "fight or flight" triggered by resentment and anger towards someone you haven't forgiven; essentially, dwelling on a grudge can be detrimental to your overall well-being.

Trust that the above have provided some refreshing thoughts for your actions, where applicable and appropriate.
