Wisdom of Love & Love of Wisdom

In his book "Inspired Destiny", Dr. John F. Demartini recalled two nuggets of wisdom which he had learnt while a teenager from a kind man:

1. Don't judge a book by it's cover. It will fool you.

2. Learn how to read so as to find the wisdom of love and the love of wisdom.

The true worth of a book is in its contents and not its trappings. Likewise, we are well able to learn something from everyone else, every circumstances and every situations. 

The whole wide world, including the internet, is a university for us to suspend prejudices and assumptions so that we can better informed and enlightened with new understanding, insights, thoughts and appreciation. 

Acquired wisdom increases our love quotient. For example, when we show kindness to the elderly, others would observe and learn from us. By the by, when we ourselves become old and frail, we would appreciate even the simple act of someone giving up a seat for us on the train. 

The love (philo) of wisdom (sophia) means philosophy. As we fall in love with wisdom, we are better equipped to live life more fully and meaningful. Here are some examples of wisdom for your contemplation:

"If you reason with an arrogant cynic, you’ll get slapped in the face;
    confront bad behavior and get a kick in the shins.
So don’t waste your time on a scoffer;
    all you’ll get for your pains is abuse.
But if you correct those who care about life,
    that’s different—they’ll love you for it!
Save your breath for the wise—they’ll be wiser for it;
    tell good people what you know—they’ll profit from it.
Skilled living gets its start in the Fear-of-God,
    insight into life from knowing a Holy God.
It’s through me, Lady Wisdom, that your life deepens,
    and the years of your life ripen.
Live wisely and wisdom will permeate your life;
